Decolonizing Creativity:
making low stakes art to navigate high stakes times
Thursday, May 7 2026
6:30-8:30pm

People's Solidarity Hub, white building (1809 Chapel Hill Rd, Durham, NC)
Sliding Scale $25-$55

In this wild moment in time, we often struggle to know how to show up in community, creative projects, and as humans. Guilt and fear around “not knowing enough” and "not showing up the right way” spill out in unexpected ways.

We have the medicine for this! Join Karen and Isabel for a night of low-stakes art activities geared towards healing white supremacy culture and building resilience in creativity and mutual care.

In this workshop, we’ll get to know one another, learn a few specific tools for overcoming perfectionism, and engage in playful art-making to practice releasing our attachment to doing things Right.

Everyone will leave with a few tangible ways to gently practice openness and transformative justice with loved ones and in community spaces. We hope you’ll join us for a night of making weird art and sharing in the experiences of grief and hope.

Things to know about sliding scale: This workshop is pay what you’re able and we don’t want cost to be a barrier. When deciding what’s doable for you, it may be helpful to consider both the costs to put together the workshop and your access to discretionary income, relationship to living wage and your class experience generally. To run this workshop, some of our costs include space rental, art materials and snacks, as well as time for the 2 facilitators to both plan and run the workshop.
